Donovan is Two

After days of anticipation - on both Nicholas' and Donovan's part - we celebrated Donovan's birthday today. The boys were up early this morning and we spent our morning preparing for the birthday celebration. Balloons, streamers, materials to frost the cake....

For the last week, Nicholas has been asking Donovan what kind of cake he wants. The conversation goes something like,"OK, Donovan, you have three options. You can have a firetruck cake, a train cake, or a truck that carries dirt and has flames on it. Which one do you want?". Every time, Donovan would answer with "Bus". And, every time Nicholas would repeat, "Donovan, that is not one of your options. Let me give you your options again..." Doug came home early - and decorated Donovan's birthday cake bus.

Donovan and Nicholas really worked well together tonight. Nicholas gave Donovan the first chance to do everything by himself, but was ready to go whenever Donovan needed a bit of help... (i.e., blowing out his candle, taking the ribbons off his presents, getting the first tear started in the wrapping paper). In fact, as soon as Donovan would get a present, he would pass it over to Nicholas to do the ribbons...

Nicholas and I went shopping together for a present for Donovan. Nicholas picked out this little airplane and helped me wrap up. (He also wanted to take it to bed tonight...)

Lately, Donovan is in love with anything that rolls. It turns out he is also in love with anything that can be used to "fix" things that roll!
