The kids and I traveled to Wisconsin for Nicholas' February school vacation. We had a very nice trip, and we loved being able to see all of our family. Hopefully Doug will be able to travel with us on our next trip...
A little skiing on the Namekagon... Hael, Neel, Malu, Nicholas, Donovan, Aricca, and Lily
Chris took the older boys for a short ski on the river - and then put in a little training for the Birkie.
The river had a few soft spots in the ice. Malu fell in at "the landing", and then Donovan and Malu both fell through at the bridge. Brrr....
The boys (Donovan, Nicholas, Neel, and Hael) had a beautiful day for the Barnebirkie. Nicholas and Neel skied together in the 3 km race, and Donovan and Hael skied together in the 1 km race. All of the boys were much faster than they were last year and had a fun time. Donovan and Hael continued to be a bit wary of the clowns that we saw along the course, but it gave them an incentive to ski more quickly.
Donovan and Ray kept tabs on Nicholas and Neel in the 3 km race, while Malu and I stayed with the younger boys.
Nicholas at the start - he was SO HOT by the time he finished the race.

Lily catching a ride with Grandpa after the race... she was pretty tired out from spectating with Grandma and Grandpa.
Lily spent the weeks before we headed back to Wisconsin talking non-stop about going back to see Great Grandpa. Every night she told me: "Lily go see Great Grandpa. Maybe Great Grandpa have candy for Lily?" All three of the kids found plenty of candy in Great Grandpa's special drawer - and also loved playing in the loft and playing outside in the snow. Lily's first find was the candy... and minutes later she found her way back to the collection of special necklaces.
Hael, Nicholas, and Lily - Playing in the snow at Great Grandpa's house.
Hael and Lily on the swings. Hael is very sweet and LOVES Lily.

Grandpa's junglegym... with Neel, Hael, Nicholas, Donovan (and his T-Rex), and Lily attacking.
Playing marbles (at least for a few moments)...
Story time... Lily, Neel, Grandpa, Hael, Donovan, Nicholas, and Grandma.
Sarah and Chris before the Birkie
The kids and I met Donovan and Sage on the Birkie trail to cheer on Chris and Sarah. Donovan had a nice campfire going at the top of one of the hardest/longest hills on the Birkie trail. Not many of the first skiers responded to our cheers, but by the time the third wave skiers were coming through (about 1,000 skiers per wave), many people had requested to borrow Sage to pull them up the remainder of the hill.

Before we returned to New Hampshire, we had a chance to spend a few hours sledding at Aunt Beth and Uncle Scott's cabin with the Dums and Johnson children.
All piled into the sled... Nicholas, Donovan, Shephard, Rainer, and Hael
What a gang...
