Barnebirkie and Birkie 2012

We had a great trip to Wisconsin at the end of February. It was wonderful to see the whole family. The trip included two major ski races (the one kilometer Barnebirkie and the 50+ kilometer Birkebeiner), a lot of time for the cousins to play outside in the snow, lots of work constructing Legos, and a lot of nice time to visit with Mom, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Dennis, Katie, Chris, Ray, Malu, Donovan, Sarah, and Neel and Hael.

Donovan, Hael, Nicholas, and Neel did their first ski race - the 1 kilometer Barnebirkie.

Nicholas on the course.

Even the Barnebirkie has mass crashes. Nicholas is the one right in the middle with the blue jacket.

Hael and Donovan skied side by side for almost the full race, with Malu and me by their sides.

The boys skied quite quickly until a clown caught up with them. Once the clown passed, they went quite a bit slower with frequent announcements from Donovan that he didn't like clowns.

Doug and Chris both skied the full Birkebeiner, and Sarah skied the Kortelopet (half the distance). They all did a great job. The trail conditions were perfect and the weather was very nice for spectating. We watched Chris and Doug come through "OO" (the half-way point) and then saw Doug finish on Main Street in Hayward. I haven't seen Doug looking as happy as he did on Main Street in quite some time.

Mom with the three kids. By the time Doug came through "OO", all three were screaming... I think they were all cold and tired. Ugh!!

In addition to the ski races, we were able to spend a bit of time playing outside and inside.
