Mid-December

Time to catch up again... We had a very nice December - with Doug's birthday, and visits from Doug's parents; Ray, Malu, Neel, and Hael; and Chris. It was particularly wonderful to be able to spend a lot of  time with Nicholas and Doug at home - during their overlapping school vacations.

Doug's birthday had a "flight" theme - Nicholas has determined that Doug has earned enough "stripes" to start taking flight lessons. Apparently this comes from Doug's latest abilities to pull his remote control airplanes out of loop-de-loops and rolls without crashing. Nicholas has been generously discounting the few recent crashes into trees and the ground...

A new first in our family - Doug's birthday cake of choice was a Lemon Meringue Pie (following Grandma Shoulberg's recipe).

Donovan gave Doug one of his airplanes.

Nicholas found "blast rockets" for Doug.

Donovan picked out this "penguin rescue helicopter" - He was so excited for it. A few nights before Doug's birthday, I heard him laughing upstairs in his bedroom. I went up to ask him what was so funny, and he giggled as he told me: "Mommy, you didn't know this, but I actually got the penguin rescue helicopter for myself", and then more laughs... It goes everywhere with Donovan.

Doug's big present was a replacement for the "NexStar." We're waiting for soft ground to fly it.
